Jesse: Hey, Melissa! I didn’t know you had Academic Choice Period!
Melissa: Yep, just got it! I didn’t know you had it too!
Jesse: I just got it, too! Isn’t it great!
Melissa: Better than great! It’s awesome!
Jesse: Tell me about it! Like if I wanted to go see Mr. Fazio right now in English class for tutoring, I totally could!
Melissa: If you wanted to, you mean.
Jesse: Naturally.
Melissa: And say I wanted to go the library to type up my US History report—no one could stop me!
Jesse: Yeah! Are you going to?
Melissa: No, but I could—that’s what I’m getting at.
Jesse: Right. And say I wanted to just—um—kind of sit here wondering what to do with myself.
Melissa: Here? (Sits down)
Jesse: Sure. Or like—here. (Sits down beside Melissa)
Melissa: (glum)It would be your choice.
Jesse: Right. It’s my choice.
Melissa: So what ARE you going to do?
Jesse: Wish I knew …
Melissa: (after long pause) Wow! Choice is kind of hard!
Jesse: It ain’t easy, sister. It ain’t easy …
